Setting up Windows 95/98 Dial-Up Networking


Double-click the "My Computer" icon on your computer's "desktop".

In the "My Computer" window, double-click the "Dial-Up Networking" icon.

Double-click on the "Make New Connection" icon.

In the line labeled "Type a name for the computer you are dialing", type in Montana.Net

Click on the "Next" button



Type in the Area Code and Telephone Number as indicated here.

Click on the "Next" button.

 



Click on the "Finish" button to return to the Dial-Up Networking window.

In the Dial-Up Networking window, you should now have an icon labeled "Montana.Net".



Right-click on the Montana.Net icon, then Left-click on the "Properties" selection of the pop-up menu.


Windows 95...

In this window, click on the "Server Type" button to proceed to the "Server Types" window after the following graphic.

 


OR...
 

Windows 98...

In this window, click on the "Server Type" button to proceed to the "Server Types" window next.



In this window, named "Server Types", remove the checkmark in the "Log on to network" box.

You may also remove the checkmarks from the "NetBEUI" and "IPX/SPX Compatible" boxes.

These changes should leave your window looking as shown at right.

Next, click on the "TCP/IP Settings" button.

 



In the "TCP/IP Settings" box, select "Server assigned..." for both the "IP address" and "name server addresses" sections.

When finished, the screen should look as shown at right.

Click the "OK" button, and click "OK" once more, to return to the Dial-Up Networking window.
